Representatives from diverse faith groups in the Portland, Maine, comm unity have joined forces to begin the difficult work of raising $120,000 in cash and in-kind donations to build a Habitat For Humanity house. Pictured at far left is Cherry Hill Seminary's own Cynthia Jane Collins, M.Div, M.S., Assistant Chair of Pastoral Counseling, at the October 2007 groundbreaking. While Habitat has benefited in the past from collaborative Ecumenical teams, this “Interfaith Build Team” is a first for Habitat, Portland. The response from the various faith communities has been strong, and the team now has representation from Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist, First Parish Church, Temple Beth El, St. Pius X and St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic, Thornton Heights United Methodist, and Interfaith Maine (representing, among others, the Muslim and Pagan communities.) The house is expected to be completed this spring
